Privacyin the app and on this site

What the app and this site know about you. Everything is below, point by point.

  • Who is responsible for your data

The HearClosely project. For any question about your data, write to hearclosely@gmail.com.

  • Your files stay with you

The app processes MIDI files, recordings, pictures and finished videos on your computer. It does not send them to us, and we do not see the names of your pieces.

  • Without signing in

You can use the app without signing in to an account. Then it tells us nothing about you. Once a day the app may check whether a new version is out: for that it only reads a file from our site.

  • Signing in with Google

If you sign in, we receive your email, your name and a link to your avatar from Google, and nothing else. We do not store the avatar. The sign-in is shared with HearClosely, the site about classical music: it is one account. The app's data and that site's data are kept apart.

  • What is stored about your app account

Your email and name, the licence number, your plan and how long it lasts, and the computers the app is linked to: the computer's name, a random number the app made up for itself, when the computer was linked and when the app last renewed its licence. This is needed for the subscription to work for you, and so that one account is not used by several people.

  • When the app contacts the site

When you sign in, and from time to time afterwards, to renew the licence. The app sends only the licence itself, which shows its number and the computer. It does not report what you do in the app or how many videos you have made.

  • Crash reports

If the app closes unexpectedly, it shows you a report: steps without the names of files and folders. It does not send it anywhere without your consent.

  • Payment

Payment is taken by Paddle under its own privacy rules; your name, address and payment details for the purchase are taken and kept by Paddle, not by us. The payment window is Paddle's script; it loads only when you press a payment button, and then Paddle may set its own cookies. We do not see or store your card details. From Paddle we receive the subscription and customer numbers, the subscription's status and the paid term.

  • Emails

We write to your email about your subscription, about changes to prices or terms, in reply to your letters and, rarely, about a major new version of the app. You can opt out of emails about new versions by replying to one. Receipts and payment reminders are sent by Paddle.

  • Site statistics without names

On this site we count visits: which page was opened, in which language, from which country, on a phone or a computer, and which site you came from. For this we set no cookies, do not store the address of your device and do not know who you are. There are no ads and no third-party counters here.

  • What stays in your browser

The theme and the sign-in are kept in your browser. The language choice is in the hc-lang cookie: the site opens in your language by it.

  • Where the data is stored and who helps us

The site and the data are stored in AWS, in Frankfurt (EU); sign-in is handled by AWS and Google, payment by Paddle. We do not pass your data to anyone else and do not sell it; we may disclose it only when the law requires. Technical server logs, which may contain the address of your device, are kept for 14 days and are needed only to protect against abuse.

  • How long we keep it

We keep the records of your app account for as long as the account exists. After deletion we erase them, except for what the law requires us to keep longer; payment records are kept by Paddle.

  • Your rights and how to delete everything

You can ask what we store about you, and ask us to correct or delete it - write to hearclosely@gmail.com, and we will answer within 30 days. You can remove a computer yourself on the account page. Deleting the account does not refund the paid term, so cancel the subscription first. The delete button on the HearClosely site removes only that site's data; it does not touch the app's records. If you live in the EU, you can also turn to the data protection authority of your country.

  • Children

The app and the site are not meant for children under 16 without their parents' permission.

  • If this page changes

We will write about significant changes to those who have an account; the date at the bottom shows when the page was last updated.
